A photographer and storm chaser filmed stunning timelapse footage of the northern lights flaring across the night sky near Hillsboro, North Dakota, during the late hours of October 11.
Filmed by Alex Resel, who shot interval photographs over the span of 30 minutes, this video captures the solar flare exploding with intensity.
The night of October 11 into October 12 was ideal for skywatchers to witness the aurora borealis, with the NOAA issuing a geomagnetic storm watch, and forecasting a coronal mass ejection (CME) from a solar flare to hit the atmosphere. Credit: Alex Resel via Storyful
